Ria de Alvor

Acabo de regressar do Alvor (no Algarve) zona esta que habitualmente frequento durante o período de férias. Como manda a tradição, tirei algum tempo para ir fotografar ao final da tarde para a Ria do Alvor. O percurso até à Ria faz-se por um estradão de terra batida desde uma das praias ou da vila do Alvor, onde é preciso caminhar durante cerca de meia hora. Para minha agradável surpresa, recentes passadiços em madeira permitem agora aos visitantes caminhar evitando o pisoteio sobre algumas zonas mais sensíveis e tornando o percurso mais leve. A Ria estava cheia de vida. Bandos de pintassilgos acompanham-me ao longo do percurso. Uma cotovia-de-poupa (muito frequente por aqui) vai saltitando à minha frente. Dunas douradas e com uma vegetação esplendorosa convidam-me a fazer inúmeras imagens. Ao chegar a uma das margens da Ria, as andorinhas-do-mar-anãs esvoaçam sobre mim arreliadas. Percebi que tinham ninhos por perto e afastei-me. Ao fundo lá estavam inúmeros juvenis, já com capacidade de voo. Desde sempre que conheço aqui esta colónia, mas desta vez instalaram-se mais perto do estradão. Sempre que alguém passa, é uma cena tipo "Angry Birds". Deu para fazer novas imagens destas aves em voo com o sol por trás e de alguns juvenis em cima da duna, dissimulados pela vegetação. Terminei a fazer fotografias arrastadas das margens da Ria ao sabor das ondas da maré. Foi proveitoso o final da tarde. Quando cheguei ao Alvor já era noite.

I have recently returned from Alvor (in the Portuguese Algarve), where I usually spend part of my summer holidays, spending the late afternoons photographing in the Ria de Alvor. To get here, you can take a wide gravel road from one of the beaches to the village of Alvor, where you must then walk for about half an hour. To my pleasant surprise, recently installed wooden walkways now enable visitors to walk across and avoid trampling on the sensitive areas and make the journey lighter. The Ria is full of wildlife. Flocks of goldfinches followed me along the route. A lark, very common here, bounces around in front of me. Golden dunes with magnificent vegetation invite me to take many pictures. Arriving in one of the banks of the Ria, the little terns flit annoyed from one place to another. I realize they have nests nearby, and so I moved away. In the background there were many juveniles, already capable of flying. I have known about this colony for a long time, but this summer they have moved closer to the gravel road. Whenever somebody passes by, there is a scene like "Angry Birds." Nevertheless, it enabled me to take new images of these birds in flight with the sun behind and some juveniles over the dune, partly hidden by the vegetation. I finished taking dragged pictures of the banks of the Ria with the flow tide. This late afternoon photography was profitable. When I arrived in Alvor it was already night.
